Alyas Omeed

Alyas Omeed is a Human Rights activist whose passion is to help people. Living with a visual impairment, he has completed his higher education in Canada. He received his first bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of British Columbia and his second bachelor’s degree in Teacher Education from the same university, located in Vancouver, Canada. Additionally, he completed his Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Administration at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly known as Ryerson University.

 

He lost his eyesight at the age of 7 during the 1992 Civil War in Kabul, Afghanistan, when a grenade landed in his family home. However, he has not given up on seeing a bright future for himself and his generation; in fact, he has turned obstacles into opportunities. His resilience, perseverance, determination, and optimism have inspired many people in Afghanistan and globally.

His slogan is, “Life works for you if you would like to make it work.”

 

He has worked with a number of international organizations, including the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission. Holding many different positions and possessing various abilities and capacities, he is determined to help people and reach the unreached. He works hard through collaboration and encourages young people to actively participate in society and play significant roles. Additionally, he is the recipient of many awards and scholarships. Recently, he received the Newcomers Recognition Award from the Local Immigration Partnership of the County of Simcoe.

 

Out of his efforts and passion, he founded the Canadian Hope Giving Organization to assist immigrants, newcomers, refugees, and persons with disabilities in achieving meaningful social participation. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Hope Giving Organization (CHGO).
