About us
The Canadian Hope Giving Organization (CHGO) is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to supporting refugees, immigrants, newcomers, and individuals with disabilities in Canada, particularly in Ontario. Founded by Alyas Omeed, a devoted human rights activist and long-term educator who is completely blind, the organization reflects his vision of an inclusive and compassionate society. CHGO provides vital resources and programs to help individuals and families integrate into Canadian society, access meaningful opportunities, and contribute positively to their communities. With a team of committed staff members, community leaders, and volunteers, CHGO works tirelessly to empower people facing barriers and promote equity and inclusion.
Alyas Omeed’s personal journey has been both remarkable and inspiring. As someone who has lived with complete visual impairment, he understands firsthand the challenges that come with disability and displacement. Rather than allowing these obstacles to limit him, he has dedicated his life to advocating for others. Through CHGO, Alyas has spearheaded numerous initiatives to support people with disabilities in finding meaningful employment, building self-confidence, and engaging fully in society. His lived experience has given him unique insight into the structural barriers people face, and he has become a powerful voice for the social inclusion of people with disabilities.
In addition to his advocacy for the disabled community, Alyas has worked extensively with immigrants, refugees, and newcomers to Canada. He has helped many individuals access language training, job opportunities, and cultural orientation programs that are essential for successful settlement. Under his leadership, CHGO has become a trusted resource for vulnerable populations seeking a new start in a new country. His work bridges cultural and social divides, ensuring that people not only survive but thrive in their new environment.
Alyas Omeed’s story has recently reached an even wider audience with the publication of his memoir, Turning Impossibility into Reality: A Journey Beyond Limits. The book chronicles his incredible path from overcoming personal adversity to becoming a leader and advocate for others. It has inspired many readers with its message of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of service. His unwavering determination to support others continues to inspire his organization and community alike.
Today, CHGO remains committed to building a more inclusive and supportive society. Under Alyas Omeed’s leadership, the organization continues to expand its outreach and impact. Whether through employment programs for people with disabilities, settlement services for newcomers, or community-building initiatives across Ontario, CHGO exemplifies what it means to turn challenges into opportunities. The work of Alyas Omeed and the Canadian Hope Giving Organization stands as a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and hope.
